Hyde Pig Company Ltd – Hinds, Canterbury
Hyde Pig Company Ltd is a well-established 300-sow piggery located in Hinds, Canterbury. We are currently seeking a reliable and experienced Senior Piggery Stockperson to join our team and assist with the day-to-day management of our operation.
About the Role
Thisis a hands-on role working closely with the farm owner across all aspects ofpiggery management. The successful applicant will play a key role inmaintaining high standards of animal welfare, productivity, and farmoperations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist and report directly to the Farm Owner on all aspects of piggery management
- Carry out daily care of sows, piglets, and growing pigs
- Monitor animal health, welfare, feeding, and nutrition
- Perform health checks and administer treatments as required
- Maintain accurate records (animal movement, breeding, production data)
- Oversee indoor housing, including feeding, bedding (straw), and cleanliness
- Ensure compliance with health & safety and animal welfare standards.
Skills &Experience Required
- Minimum 3 years' relevant piggery or livestock farming experience, OR
- A Level 3 (or higher) qualification in agriculture, animal science, or related field
- Strong understanding of animal husbandry and welfare practices
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good record-keeping and communication skills.
Additional Requirements
- Must be a New Zealand resident or hold a valid New Zealand work visa
- Must have a valid driver's licence
- Must have reliable own transport (no accommodation is provided)
- Must be able to provide a clean police record and pass a drug test.
Hours &Remuneration
- Minimum of 30 hours per week up to max. of 45 hours per week
- $28.00 per hour
